BEVELING DIE

We will use it to make cuts and thus facilitate other subsequent work.

SKINS

The natural beef we need can be found in different animals. For this article we will use natural beef cowhide, which is thick and rigid. This leather is ideal for working on its surface and allows greater handling of its surface once it has been wet. Natural cowhide is widely used in engraving, embossing and other various techniques.

With this skin you can make various items such as belts , suitcases , horse straps or Venetian masks !

TOOLS

Awl or awl: It will help us transfer a drawing to the cow skin. Normally an opening burin is used. For this tutorial we will use a more common tool at home.

Tool with blade: We will use it to make cuts and thus facilitate other subsequent work. It allows you to make straight or circular cuts thanks to the rotation of its blade.

In this tutorial made especially for our YouTube channel we show you in a simple, easy and quick way how to engrave your first Celtic drawing on natural cowhide leather. Created and edited by @falconess_

TRICK #1 - Start small

It is recommended that whenever you want to start with leather crafts you consider acquiring small skins for use and disposal. When you master the technique of engraving on leather or small scraps, then you can move on to larger pieces, depending on the project.

TRICK Nº 2 - Wet the skin

If you find it difficult to trace the furrows when working with the cow, wet it! Water makes this skin glow and it will be much easier for you to work with it. When it dries again it will continue to maintain the same properties.
